SW monsoon active over Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, June 12 (UNI) The South West Monsoon is active over Kerala and Lakshadweep, with the two regions receiving heavy rains for the last 24 hours, the local Meteorological office said today.

The highest rainfall of 13 cm was recorded at Kozhikode, followed by Kochi airport, Thrissur and Paravoor nine cm. Kasargode received seven cm of rains and Vadakara six cm, it said.

Karipur airport, Alwaye and Varkala received five cm of rain, followed by Kozha and Kavaratti four cm, said met officials.

The weather office said that a very heavy rainfall was likely over Kerala and Lakshadweep in the next 48 hours. It warned of strong onshore winds from the westerly direction along and off Kerala coast and Lakshadweep.
