Rain cools Himachal Pradesh

Shimla, June 12 (UNI) Overnight widespread rains plummeted mercury by three to five degrees in almost all places in Himachal Pradesh, providing much needed relief to people from the hot dry weather conditions prevailing in the state.

The showers first lashed Dharamshala town in Kangra followed by Hamirpur, Mandi, Shimla and other places, and continued throughout the night.

The rainwater overflowed several culverts and entered in houses in various localities like Vikasnagar, New Shimla, Tutikandi, Fagli and Nabha areas of the town, causing heavy damages to household items.

According to meteorological department here, the minimum temperature dropped to 15.2 degree Celsius as compared to yesterday's 21.2 after recording 28.2 mm of rainfall up till 0830 hrs.

Shimla recorded a maximum of 31.5 degree Celsius on Sunday, the hottest day in the state capital in twelve years.
