Prez polls: Mutual consent b/w Mayawati
New Delhi, June 12: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and BSP supremo Mayawati indicated that her party has reached some sort of an understanding with the Congress over the Presidential candidate.
Ms Mayawati, who hosted a dinner in honour of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi last night, told mediapersons that the BSP would announce its candidate today for next month's Presidential poll.
She said, ''I had a very fruitful meeting with Ms Gandhi and we discussed the issue in detail. My party and the Congress are working in tandem over the issue.'' The dinner meeting between the two leaders lasted two hours.
Earlier, Ms Gandhi, who returned from abroad in the evening, had a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the same issue.
Though Ms Mayawati's political secretary Rohit Mathur denied any official engagements for her tomorrow, it is expected that she would call on the Prime Minister.
During her first visit to the national capital on May 25 after assuming office, the UP CM had held a meeting of BSP national Executive to discuss the issue of whom to support for the next occupant of Raisina Hills.
Ms Mayawati had then told a news conference that she would be announcing her party's choice soon.
The BSP, which cornored over 200 seats in the recent Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, can play a crucial role in next month's presidential election.
