Chennai, Jun 12 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today gave a clarion call to make the state free from Child labour to add glory to it.
In his message on the occasion of Anti-Child Labour Day here, he said industrial establishments should realise that engaging child labour was an offence and take a pledge not to encourage it.
The parents should also realise that it was cruel to send children for work and ensure that they were sent to schools.
He exhorted parents, entrepreneurs, government employees, NGOs, local bodies, trade unions and general public to extend their support to the government's effort to make the State free from child-labour.
The CM said the State government, in a bid to encourage children to attend schools, has been providing free education, uniforms, notebooks, bus passes, noon meal and other facilities.
After all these beneficial schemes were launched, there has been increase in children attending schools and considerable reduction in child labour.
However child labour has to be totally eradicated and change in attitude in this regard was the need of the hour, he added.
