Khanduri indicates to contest from Dhumakot
Dehradun, June 12 (UNI) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Maj Gen (Retd) Bhuvan Chandra Khanduri today indicated he would contest from Dhumakot constituency of Pauri district that was vacated by former Congress MLA Lt Gen (Retd) T P S Rawat who recently shifted to BJP.
''With General Rawat resigning from his assembly membership and joining BJP, it is but natural to speculate the political move,'' Mr Khanduri told a section of newspersons at his office today.
Former cabinet Minister in the Congress government Mr Rawat while addressing the media had stated earlier that there was no trading in his move, the rumours doing the rounds was that Chief Minister Khanduri (who was instrumental in preparing Rawat to join BJP) was likely to contest from Dhumakot and Mr Rawat would contest by-election for Pauri Lok Sabha seat that would be vacated by Mr Khanduri. Whether Mr Rawat would contest Pauri Lok Sabha by-election is still not clear, it is clear Mr Khanduri is contesting from Dhumakot.
Chief Minister Khanduri said his government was completing its 100th day in power on June 16 and the day would be celebrated both at government and party organisation level. He said that a booklet on BJP government's achievements in these 100 days would be released on the day.
''It will be left to the public to judge for themselves how the government was functioning,'' he said.
Mr Khanduri said the corrective measeues his government has taken to curtail corruption has started showing results. He said that his aim was to make bureaucracy realise that they were for the people. ''However my actions will be justfiable and in welfare of the state,'' he said.
Reacting to the poor High School result of Uttarakhand Secondary Education Board which was below 50 per cent, he admitted the result revealed that students were not being properly educated.
''I would ensure that reason behind the unsatisfactory result would be identified and corrective measures taken and deficiencies not repeated in the next session''.
