Tiruchirapalli, Jun 12 (UNI) Tiruchirapalli edition of Janasakthi Daily, the party organ of Communist Party of India (CPI), was formally launched here today.
Popular Tamil film actor Sivakumar released the first copy of the daily, while state Transport Minister K N Nehru received it at a simple function held here this evening.
In his Presidential address, CPI state secretary and Editor of Janasakthi Daily T Pandiyan recalled that Janasakthi was launched in 1937 by veteran communist stalwart P Jeevanandam. The Trichy edition would cover Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Vedaranyam.
Later, talking to newspersons Mr Pandiyan said the immediate plan of the party would be to enhance the number of pages and also increase the contents in the newspaper.
Asked whether Janasakthi would go in for fresh editions at other districts, he replied in negative and said ''we would like to stabilise our party organ before going for more editions.'' Tiruchirapalli edition was the fourth one in Tamil Nadu, next to Chennai, Coimbatore and Madurai, he added.
