France honours Indian businessman Ashwini Kakkar

Mumbai, Jun 12: Ashwini Kakkar was bestowed the ''Ordre national du Merite'', by French Ambassador to India Dominique Girad in recognition to his contribution in promoting Indo-French relations, at a gala dinner.

Also present was CCIP (Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry)and Euro Chambers President Pierre Simon, here yesterday.

Mr Kakkar, a graduate of the INSEAD has spent the last 25 years working with various French political, economic and social institutions and has actively fostered business and academic interactions between the two countries.

The ''Ordre national du Merite'' was created by General de Gaulle in 1963 and is the most important decoration awarded by France along with the ''Legion d' Honneur'', and is equivalent to the country's ''Padma Vibhushan.''
