Five candidates in fray for MMC Mayor's post
Nashik, June 12 (UNI) As many as five candidates today filed their nominations for the Mayoral elections of the Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC) on the last day of filing of papers.
Among them are Najmuddin Sheikh Gulsher alias Khajoorwale of the Indian Muslim Congress Party (IMCP) and Congress candidate Khalil Sheikh Shafi.
Similarly, for the Deputy Mayor's post, six candidates have filed their nominations. Among them are Congress candidate Sakharam Bhika Ghodake and Shan-e-Hind Nihal Ahmed of Janata Dal.
Meanwhile, in a new twist to the changing political equations, the IMCP and Congress have decided to form an alliance to gain power at the MMC. As per the agreement between the two, Najmuddin Sheikh Gulsher will be the alliance's candidate for the Mayor's post, whereas Congress' Sakharam Ghodake will be the candidate for the Deputy Mayor's post, according to reports.
Earlier, the Shiv Sena had given an offer to form an alliance with IMCP, but the latter rejected the same citing ''pressure from Muslim religious groups''.
