APMC to take over land from non-members

Mangalore, June 12 (UNI) The Mangalore Agriculture Produces and Marketing Committee (APMC) in its meeting today decided to seize the land allotted to 31 merchants whose licenses had not been renewed even at the new APMC yard at Bykampady .

Announcing this at the press conference at the yard, APMC President K Krishnaraj Hegde said a April 27 government notification had ordered shifting of the APMC yard to Bykampady as the city's new marketing yard and asked merchants to shift business activities from the present Bunder road. The committee had decided to seize the sites of 31 merchants and allot one month time to another 19 merchants who made partial payments for the allotted sites.

Continuation of trading activities at the existing old bunder premises would not be allowed.

He said that the total revenue of the APMC during 2006-07 was Rs.

3.49 crore and decided to take up Rs. 2.76 crore worth works at the new yard.
