Timeframe to submit caste certificate extended by a month

Mumbai, June 11 (UNI) The Maharashtra Government has increased the timeframe from three months to four months for submitting caste validation certificates by candidates, who contest local bodies elections in rural areas from reserved constituencies.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh here today.

The time period of three months was to expire on June 12 for the recent local bodies elections. The candidate contesting reserved local bodies constituencies in rural areas had to submit caste validation certificate issued by the caste certificate scrutiny committee. As per existing rules, the candidate had to submit his caste validation certificate within three months otherwise he faced disqualification.

The time frame will now be four months. The candidate elected from a reserved constituency will have to submit the caste certificate within four months of being elected, an official release issued here today said.
