Guwahati, Jun 11 (UNI) Six more godowns have been sealed in Tinsukia district of upper Asom following a crackdown by the administration on illegal trading of PDS rice.

Altogether nine godowns have been sealed in two days so far.

Tinsukia District Commissioner K K Dwivedy said the raids were being conducted at various places suspected to have stored rice procured illegally from Food Corporation of India.

The officials seized the FCI tags, which were illegaly used in rice sacks, from a couple of them.

Two private godowns were sealed while 1561 quintal of BPL rice were seized from another, yesterday.

The DC said the crackdown came in the wake of allegations that PDS rice, meant to be sold to the BPL section at Rs 2, was being traded at Rs 12-14 by private businessmen, who were having a nexus with FCI officials.
