Congress sure of winning Presidential election

New Delhi, June 11: Reiterating that the process of consultations was on for selecting Congress candidate for Presidential poll, the party today said that it would enter the electoral fray with full confidence and had no doubt about the requisite support it would receive for its candidate from the political parties.

"We will contest the Presidential poll with full self condidence and we have no doubt about the support we will get(for our candidate)," Congress Spokesman Satyavrat Chaturvedi said, asserting, "the UPA candidate would be elected with sound majority. There is no doubt about it." "We will soon make up our mind. But no date has as yet been fixed for the announcement. As soon we finalise we will let you know," he told reporters while replying to queries.

Mr Chaturvedi said Congress President Sonia Gandhi and senior leaders were in the process of consulations. This process was continuing taking all the UPA allies into confidence.

The Congress Spokesman welcomed Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's appeal to the NDA to support the UPA-Left candidate and recalled that in the previous elections for the post of President the Congress had supported the NDA candidate, who eventually won the election.

Mr Chaturvedi saw no contradiction in the Prime Minister's appeal and the stand of the CWC on authorising Mrs Gandhi to select her nominee. The party would first take the UPA allies into confidence before talking to other like-minded parties who were prepared to support the Congress candidate and those who could associate themselves with the ideology of the Congress.
