Truck bomb in Iraq kills seven policemen

TIKRIT, Iraq, June 10 (Reuters) A suicide truck bomb killed seven policemen at a police station north of Baghdad today in the latest assault by insurgents on Iraq's security forces, a hospital official said.

The attack was in the village of Albu-Ajeel, east of the town of Tikrit. The hospital official, speaking from the hospital in Tikrit where the bodies were taken, said 35 people had been wounded, including police and civilians.

A police official at the hospital, Major Abdulhakim Mohammed, said five people had been killed and 45 wounded. He did not say how many were policemen.

Officials said they expected the death toll to rise because the police station had largely been destroyed. A curfew had been imposed on the village, officials said.

The attack on the police station came a day after a suicide truck bomber killed 12 soldiers at an Iraqi army checkpoint south of Baghdad.
