'Rang De Basanti' bags 11 awards in IIFA

Sheffield, June 10 (UNI) Rakesh Mehra's 'Rang De Basanti' bagged the best film honours as it swept nearly a dozen categories in the International Indian Film Academy Awards held here yesterday.

Rani Mukherjee got the best actress award for her role in 'Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna' and Hritik Roshan bagged the best actor award for his role in Kriish. Rajkumar Hirani on the other hand scooped the best director award for 'Lage Raho Munnabhai'.

Dharmendra, Basu Chatterjee and Deepa Mehta were felicitated with outstanding contribution.

'Rang De Basanti' walked away with 11 awards. Rensil D'silva and Rakesh Mehra got the best screen play and best director award for the same movie.

The best supporting actress award was given to Soha ali Khan and best music, background music and best song recording awards were given to A R Rehman.

Hitendra Ghosh was adjudged as the best re-recordist for the same movie while Binod Pradhan as best cinematographer and Samir Chanda got for the best art direction while Nakul Kamte got the award for best sound recording and P S Bharati got the award for best editing.

Rakesh Roshan was given the award for the best creative person for his movie Krrish.

For the negative role, Saif Ali Khan bagged the award for his role in 'Omkara'.

Sunidhi Chauhan walked away with the award of best playback singer for 'Beedi Jalai le' (Omkara) while Shaan for 'Chaand Sifarish jo Karata' for Fanaa.

UFO movies were also given the award for bringing innovative digital era in the Indian Cinema while Eros international which has so far distributed 1300 films has also been given the award to promote the Indian cinema.

The Hallam Fm arena where the IIFA ceremony was held was jam packed with a crowd of 30,000 mostly Indians and Pakistanis settled in yorkshire.

Amongst cheers and 'thank you speeches', the Grand Finale- IDEA IIFA Awards 2007 also saw dazzling performances from leading stars of Indian cinema, the likes of which have never been seen before.

Abhishek Bachchan, Salman Khan, Shilpa Shetty, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan and Bipasha Basu set the stage ablaze with performances.

The night also saw electrifying dance rhythms by Govinda, Aftab Shivdasani, Emraan Hashmi and Raima Sen choreographed to immaculate perfection by Shaimak Davar. To add more zing to the already intoxicating night, Boman Irani and his various get ups including that of James bond, Spiderman added fun in the function. Boman Irani kept the audience in splits with his witticisms as the host for the evening. Lara Dutta adding the oomph quotient supported him through the ceremony.

'Koffee with Karan' fame Karan Johar hosied the function announcing the names of the people giving outstanding contribution to the films.

Union minister of state civil aviation also attended the function.

Shilpa Shetty who enthralled the UK audience, was also given an award on this occasion.

She also performed live to all the hit songs of the year including 'crazy kiya re'.

Award for make up went to G A James (Dhoom 2), costume design Anahita Adjania Shroff (Krrish), Action Tony Ching Stutung and Shyam Kaushal (Dhoom 2), Choreography Ganesh Acharya (BeediJalai) Omkara, special effects EFX studio (Krrish).

Kangana Ranaut and Upen Patel were given the star debut awards for female and male respectively.

Abhijeet Joshi and Rajkumar Hirani got the award for best dialogues for Lage Raho Munnabhai as for the best story.

Tushaar Kapoor was adjudged as the best comic role artiste for his role in 'Golmaal' while Arshad Warsi was adjudged as the best supporting actor for his role in 'Lage Raho Munnabhai'.
