Govt crackdown on PDS rice scam

Guwahati, June 10 (UNI) Two private godowns were sealed while 1561 quintal of BPL rice seized from another by officials in Tinsukia district of upper Asom today.

Officials sources said following an inquiry by the administration over allegations that PDS rice meant to be sold to the BPL section at Rs two were being traded at Rs 12-14 by private businessmen having nexus with Food Corporation of India officials, raids were conducted at several places in Tinsukia during the day.

Around 1561 quintal rice bearing FCI label was seized from a godown owned by one Sawarmal Agarwalla.

Two other godowns were also sealed on charges of trading FCI branded rice illegally.

Tinsukia ADC Ratul Duara said more raids would be conducted to bust the racket.
