Four hardcore militants arrested

Imphal, June 10 (UNI) Four militants, belonging to two outfits, were arrested by police and troops in three incidents during the past two days, police said today.

Assam Rifles officials said a joint team of 21 and 34 AR arrested two cadres of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) at Kakching Bazar, Thoubal district yesterday.

In another incident, a militant, belonging to the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), was nabbed by police on June eight, Imphal East Superintendent of Police L Kailun said.

The KYKL cadre said he was working as a sub-contractor with the social welfare department for the past two years.

He used to negotiate with the government department, especially the social welfare department, under the command of one Hijam Basanta of Uripok Polem Leikai at Imphal, the SP said, adding the cadre monitored the schemes under the department and informed the KYKL for contract works.

Later, based on the information provided by tbe cadre, the police arrested Basanta, the SP said.

Basanta confessed that he was working under the command of one S S finance officer Romesh Singh of KYKL. He said he distributed work of different sub-contractors by deducing ten per cent for the KYKL.
