TN bypoll: 160 Head Constables transferred

Madurai, June 8 (UNI) Following an Election Commission (EC) directive, several lower-rung police personnel have been transferred in view of the June 26 Assembly bye-election to the Madurai West Assembly constituency.

Following the EC's order, 160 Head Constables, who had completed three years and more service in the seven police stations falling under the constituency, have been shifted to other places.

This comes close on the heels of the transfers effected in the top brass with the shunting out of three Assistant Commissioners of Police and 15 Sub Inspectors after the election schedule was announced.

This was the first time that such large-scale transfers had been made in the state to ensure fair and free polls, sources said.
