Son of Russian Deputy Prime Minister sentenced to 14 months in UK
Moscow, Jun 9 (UNI) A London court has sentenced Pyotr Zhukov, son of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Zhukov, to 14 months in prison for assaulting a local when drunk last July.
Another Russian, Artyom Dashko, who was with Zhukov at that time, was given 18 months in prison, as the court ruled that he had initiated the fight with the British national Ben Ramsey, RIA Novosti news agency reported.
Zhukov and Dashko will have to pay 7,500 pounds (14,750 dollars) each in compensation for inflicting bodily harm.
Last July, investment banker Ramsey went to what he believed was a house party. He entered an apartment where Zhukov and Dashko were celebrating, and was later attacked by the latter.
Zhukov, 24, also an investment banker, claimed that he was not involved in the fight, and only tried to break it up.
Ramsey suffered a crushed cheekbone, cuts on the back of his head, two cracked ribs, a swollen jaw and bruises to his arms, shoulder, chest and legs.
Judge Nicholas Loraine-Smith, while passing the sentence, rejected defence pleas for suspended sentences and told the accused the attack was "too brutal" and the consequences of it on their victim "too great to allow me to impose anything other than an immediate custodial sentence." UNI
