Kargil BSNL comm scandal accused denied bail

Srinagar, Jun 9: After Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Kashmir,rejected the bail applications of three people involved in the Kargilmulti-crore BSNL communication scandal, the Vigilance Organisation (VO)today declared three other accused as proclaimed offenders andannounced a reward for those helping to arrest them.

The judge, after hearing arguments from both the sides, denied thebail to the accused saying it has international ramification concerningsecurity.

As the case came up for hearing, the defence lawyers of theaccused Shamim Ahmad, Roshan Lal Bhat and Naseer Ahmad Malik movedthree separate bail applications pleading innocence and saying theydeserve bail.

However, the Chief Prosecuting Officer, opposing the bail,submitted a detail report of the case prepared by VO before the court.

The VO in its report said Aijaz Ahmad, who has been declaredproclaimed offender along with his two brothers, had established withother co-accused a network of call centres with conference facility inKargil for the past two years.

The call centres were run in a clandestine manner causing loss of crores of rupees to the BSNL.

The report has identified 32 countries so far where calls were made during these two years.

Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police, VO, has declaredproclaimed offender Aijaz Ahmad, Mohammad Shafi Bhat and Shabir AhmadBhat alias Doctor sons of Abdul Rehman Bhat.

Anyone giving any information leading to their arrest will berewarded, the VO said releasing the photographs of the accused brothers.
