India does not support monarchy in Nepal: maoist leader

Kathmandu, June 9 (UNI) India was in favour of supporting the Nepali people's decision in relation to the monarchy in the country, CPN-UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal has said.

"Both the ruling side and the opposition in India were not in favour of the monarchy but for consolidation of Loktantra in Nepal", the state run The Rising Nepal today quoted Nepal, as saying.

"The progress of Nepal would be in the interest of India," Nepal, who returned from India yesterday, quoted Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as saying during his meeting.

Nepal said that India was of the view that the elections to the constituent assembly should be held on time, as it would institutionalise the achievements made so far.

A delegation of CPN-UML had visited India recently.
