Amitabh, Shabana, Yash Chopra awarded Doctorate by UK university

Leeds, Jun 9 (UNI) Superstar Amitabh Bachchan added another feather in his cap when was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Leeds Metropolitan University, alongwith Shabana Azmi and veteran director Yash Chopra at a function here today.

All the three Bollywood veterans were presented with the honour by University chancellor Brendan Foster.

An auditorium at the university, formerly named after James Graham, has been renamed as Mahatma Gandhi auditorium and the announcement to this effect was made by Mr Bachchan himself.

Speaking on the occasion, he stressed how education helps in achieving superiority in every walk of life, and said technology and education always go together and cited the importance of camera for acting as an example .

''Our cinema was a matter of ridicule once, now it is a matter of anylysis and pride'', said the IFFA brand ambassador and star of the millennium in his address.

Yash Chopra, who has spent more than five decades in Bollywood was described as a colossus of Indian cinema.

While replying to the honour, the director of many hits said he had tried to bring cinema more close to the people. Shabana Azmi also spoke on the occasion.

Big B's son Abhishek, daughter-in law Aishwarya and Shweta Nanda also were present at the ceremony.
