Vaidehi, Rohit bag a double each

Chandigarh, June 8 (UNI) Vaidehi Bhagwat of Maharashtra and Rohit Bisht of Delhi claimed a double each in the AITA Super Series Tennis Tournament at the Sector 10 CLTA Tennis Stadium here today.

Vaidehi emerged winner in the girls Under-14 as well as in the Girls Under-16 singles finals. Rohit lifted the boys Under-14 and Under-16 singles titles.

Vaidehi had given a consistent display throughout the tournament.

After beating top seeded Shweta C Rana of Delhi in the girls Under-14 singles final in straight sets 7-5, 6-3, she defeated an erratic top seed Garima Vatwani in three sets 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 at the Centre Court.

Garima won the first set by hitting deep and unleashing winner at required time. Vaidehi covered the court well with agility and claimed the next two sets without facing any tough resistance.

As the match progressed, Vaidehi played to a plan and kept the ball in the game, while Garmina started committing unforced errors which let to her downfall.

Rohit Bisht displayed his brilliant form as he secured top positions in the boys Under-14 as well as boys under-16 final.

Fourth seed Digvijay Singh Mehta of Himachal Pradesh was expected to give tough fight to top seed Rohit. However, Rohit kept the match under control with good ground strokes and serve. Rohit won 6-4, 7-5.

Later in the boys Under-16 final, Rohit shattered the hopes of qualifier Saurabh Singh, also of Delhi in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.

Girls Under-16 singles: Vaidehi Bhagwat (Mah) bt Garima Vatwani (Delhi) 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Boys Under-14 singles: Rohit Rana Bisht (Delhi) bt Digvijay Singh Mehta (Himachal Pradesh) 6-4, 7-5.

Boys Under-16 singles: Rohit Bisht (Delhi) bt Saurabh Singh (Delhi) 6-3, 6-4.
