Two persons arrested for killing youth

Balurghat, Jun 8 (UNI) Two persons were arrested here today on charges of killing a 20-year-old college student last night, when the victim had visited the house of the accused.

Twenty-year-old Sumit Mohanto, who was a second year History Honours student of Gangarampur college, was today recovered by the police from Katlapura's Idgar grounds.

According to police investigation, the victim had visited the house of Jayanta Majumdar, father of a girl with whom Mohanto had been having a long relation. Jayanta and eldest son Kuntal Majumdar were today arrested.

On November 10 last year, the boy-and-girl duo had left home and later returned, when the girl's father accused Mohanto of kidnapping his daughter.

Following charges, Mohanto was even remanded to 14 day's police custody and later released after being found not guilty.

So far as last night's incident was concerned, the police said that Mohanto, who went to thier residence was poisoned by Thiodine and left in the Idgar grounds, one and a half kms from their residence at Tapanthanamore.

The polce have sent the body to Balurghat hospital for post mortem to ascertain whether it was a case of murder or suicide, Additional SP Bhuban Chandra Mondol said here today.

Following arrests, local women went on an agitation and blocked a state highway demanding the arrest of the duo.
