Tamil Nadu: Councillor, aides attacked

Tiruchirapalli, June 8: An Independent councillor of Tiruchirapalli City Corporation and two others were attacked by a gang at TVS Tollgate area in the city, early this morning.

Police said M Venkataraj (40), representing 34th ward of the Corporation, was working as a pro-DMK councillor. He, along with his associates, erected a banner welcoming State Local Administration Minister M K Stalin, who is going to launch various development projects and inaugurate a shopping complex at TVS Tollgate area.

Venkataraj and his aides were allegedly waylaid and attacked by a gang injuring all, including the car driver. The gang also damaged the windscreen of the car.

Later, Venkataraj and his supporters resorted to a roadroko demanding action against the culprits. On the intervention of the police, they withdrew their agitation.

The cantonment police have registered a case.
