Colour TV sets will be distributed to cardholders: Stalin

Tiruchirapalli, Jun 8 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Local Administration Minister M K Stalin today said the government would distribute colour television sets in a phased manner to all eligible ration card holders in the state.

Inaugurating various development projects executed by the District Rural Development Agency for Rs 17.78 crores at a function here, he said the DMK government would honour its election promises and distribute CTV sets to every eligible PDS card holders in the state.

Television sets were handed over to the residents of Samathuvapuram (residential colonies housing people of all regions and castes in a single location) in the first phase, followed by the second phase when 10,000 sets were distributed in each of the 234 assembly constituencies, Mr Stalin explained.

The distribution of television sets in the third phase would be announced soon followed by Phase four to cover the entire state, he said adding there was no crunch for funds as the government had already made the entire allocation to execute the scheme.

Mr Stalin said a meeting had been convened on June 14 at Chennai to discuss a permanent solution to overcome the drinking water scarcity in Tiruchirapalli and other cities in the state.

Earlier, he laid the foundation stone for construction of a new bridge at a cost of Rs 36 crores across river Coleroon to link Sengaraiyur near Lalgudi in this district with Poondi.
