Blast rocks Christian area near Beirut
Beirut, June 8: An explosion rocked a Christian industrial area north of Beirut yesterday night, causing a fire and extensive damage, security sources and witnesses said.
It was not immediately clear what caused the blast in the Zouk Mosbeh area. But four explosions have rocked the Beirut area since May 20, when Lebanese troops and al Qaeda-inspired militants began battles at a Palestinian refugee camp in north Lebanon.
Lebanese soldiers and firefighters rushed to the scene of the blast at Zouk. At least one large fire was raging and a building was badly damaged with several cars destroyed.
