Adequate power to be supplied in MP

Jabalpur, June 8 (UNI) The Madhya Pradesh Power Trading Company (MPPTC) today claimed that adequate power supply would be ensured to consumers of all categories within a year.

Talking to reporters on the occasion of first anniversary of the company, MPPTC Managing Director P K Vaishya said the company had generated additional revenue by supplying power to other states and utilities.

He the said the government had created the MPPTC on June 3, 2006, and entitled it to make wholesale purchase and sale functions for the Madhya Pradesh State Electricity Board.

Besides, it was given the responsibility to ensure short-term and long-term power availability to power transmission companies.

Mr Vaishya said the company supplied 135.69 million units power worth Rs 69.91 crore to other states in 2006-07.

Besides, 6.30 per cent more power was supplied to farmers before rabi season in 2006-07 as compared to the same period during 2005-06.

During the rabi season, regular power supply was ensured in divisional headquarters and district headquarters and over 20 hour-power supply was ensured in tahsil headquarters.

He said the company supplied maximum 6,109 MW power in the previous year due to joint efforts of other supporting companies.

Mr Vaishya said the company became first in the country to successfully develop and implement the concept of 'Energy Exchange' -- under which power is received during peak hours and returned in small quantities later.

As a result of exchanging energy everyday, the company saved 27.43 million units, worth Rs 16 crore, in the past seven months.

In view of the summer season, 250 MW energy had been received from the Punjab State Electricity Board through energy banking.

During rainy season, when power was surplus in the state, 250 MW energy would be returned.

He said farmers were being supplied adequate power during night due to energy banking. In the rainy season, 400 MW extra power was proposed to be supplied to other states through energy banking.
