Blair sees G8 consensus for big emissions cuts
Heiligendamm (Germany), June 7: British Prime Minister Tony Blair said on Thursday that a consensus was forming within the Group of Eight (G8) on the need for ''substantial'' cuts in greenhouse gas emissions.
''I think there is a very substantial coming together around the need to make sure we have a substantial reduction in emissions and find the right process and the right way that we can achieve that,'' Blair told reporters after a meeting with US President George W Bush.
Bush, standing alongside Blair said: ''We are deadly earnest about getting something done.
''The US will be actively involved if not taking the lead in a post-Kyoto framework.''
