TN govt announces compensation
Chennai, Jun 6 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today announced a compensation of Rs 2.50 lakhs to those injured in the May 29 police firing and lathicharge at Vilampatti village in Dindigul district after a temple hundi theft.
Responding to CPI(M) state unit secretary N Varadarajan's plea, the Chief Minister announced a compensation of Rs One lakh to Gunasundari, who sustained serious injury in her foot and Rs 50,000 each to two people injured in the police firing and Rs 25,000 each to two others injured in the lathicharge, an oficial release here said.
The Chief Minister asked Revenue Minsiter I Periasamy, who hailed from Dindigul district, to initiate steps for setting up an all party peace committee.
With regard to Mr Varadarajan's demand for a judicial probe by a district judge, Mr Karunanidhi said the district administration had already appointed an additional district judge to enquire into the incident. After the receipt of the report within three months, the government would take necessary action, the release added.
