Retired employees on relay hunger strike

Sambalpur, June 6 (UNI) Nearly 200 retired employees of Hirakud Industrial Works(HIW) have resorted to relay hunger strike in front of the factory demanding their pending dues.

According to General Secretary VRS employees coordination committee Gopeswar Satpathy, the Varsha Fabric Private Ltd(VFPL), a Kolkata based private company, purchased HIW Limited from Industrial Development Corporation of Orissa Ltd(IDCOL) on July 11, 2006.

As per the terms and conditions, the Company was to pay the retired employees their dues within four months of taking over of the unit.

''VFPL failed to keep its promise within the stipulated period,'' Mr Satpathy alleged.
