Papers in order: RS candidates set to be declared elected
Chennai, Jun 6 (UNI) The nomination papers of six candidates, fielded by the ruling DMK, opposition AIADMK, Congress and the CPI for the biennial Rajya Sabha elections from Tamil Nadu, were found in order and they are all set to be declared elected on June 8, the last date for withdrawal.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Naresh Gupta, who is the returning officer for the elections, said the scrutiny of their papers was taken up today all the six nominations, including two each from the DMK and the AIADMK and one each from the Congress and the CPI, were found valid and accepted.
A contest has been averted as only six candidates are in the fray to fill up the six vacancies from the state assembly. As expected, the nomination filed by Mr K Padmarajan, an Independent was rejected as it was not subscribed by ten proposers and he had not remitted the security deposit of Rs 5,000.
Mr Gupta said the withdrawal of candidature could be done upto 1500 hrs on June 8.
