M V Pylee Award for Prof. Rajashekhara Pillai

Kochi, Jun 6 (UNI) Prof. V N Rajashekhara Pillai, Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU, was today presented the Prof. M V Pylee Award for Distinguished Academician of India at a function here.

The award, consisting of Rs 200,000, a memento and a citation, was presented to Prof. Pillai by Kalady Sree Shankaracharya University Vice-Chancellor K S Radhakrishanan.

The award has been instituted through an endowment created in the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) by former CUSAT Vice-Chancellor M V Pylee through a donation of Rs ten lakh.

The previous recipients of the honour are Prof. M N Srinivas, Prof. J V Narlikar, Dr M S Valiathan and Dr K Venkatasubramanian.

In his acceptance speech, Prof. Pillai highlighted the role of teachers in shaping individuals.

He also said that despite the criticism aimed at the education system in Kerala, the state had several positive points which could provide a role model to other states.

Prof. P K Abdul Azis, Vice-Chancellor, CUSAT, presided over the function.
