Gujarat successful in its polio eradication drive

Gandhinagar, June 6 (UNI) Gujarat has successfully conducted polio eradication drive in the past few years, state health minister Ashok Bhatt said today.

''In 1998, the number of polio children that was 164 has gone down to zero by 2004. In the past four years, of 82 lakhs children only six children suffered from polio,'' said Mr Bhatt while addressing the conference of health ministers of different states in New Delhi.

Bhatt said the government has set up its target of achieving complete polio eradication by 2010, for which the Gujarat government has granted Rs 13,000 crore.
