Cow slaughter causes tension

Etah, June 6 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Sahawar town of the district today when 44 carcasses of cows were recovered near Busai village, Additional District Magistrate Vijay Pal Singh said.

Agitated over the incident, several Hindu organisations took to streets and staged demonstrations at Etah-Ganjdundwara and Kasganj highways, leading to traffic snarls for couple of hours.

Seeing the situation getting out of control, all shops had to be closed.

Meanwhile, five police personnel, including a station officer, have been suspended for dereliction of duty.

PAC personnel in strength have been deployed to avoid any untoward incident.

Police have arrested eight persons in this connection.
