Patna, June 6: Plagued with recurrent incidents of cable theft in Bihar and resultant snapping of telecom system, BSNL's chief general manager for Bihar circle R.K.Agarwal today attributed the phenomena to an unhealthy nexus between cable lifters and private operators.

''The districts where private operators have no presence are rarely facing similar problems,'' he noted and emphasised that the state administration would have to play a proactive role to check telecom related crimes including theft of cables laid on roadside.

He wondered how the police had no clue about the incidents of cable theft from the roadside of main thoroughfares of the state capital, thrice from the same spot within a span of less than one month.

Meanwhile, telecom services in several areas of Patna were disrupted since last night following cable theft for the third time since May 11 last.Due to lack of coordination among various wings of Kidwaipuri exchange, the cables were left bare on the roadside thus inviting the cable lifter to pick up the items at night.

Top officials in telecom department did not rule out the possibility of involvement of some field level employees of BSNL in the episode of cable lifting.
