Tripura celebrates World environment day
Agartala, June 5: Tripura observed World Environment Day with a number of events across the state.
The celebration was started with the rally, organised by the non-government research organisation association for research on people and nature this morning. Besides, school students and social organisations, paramilitary forces, Assam Rifles, BSF and Tripura State Rifles also participated in the rally in a big way.
Chairman Tripura Industrial Development Corporation (TIDC) Pabitra Kar has flagged off the rally in front of Ujjayanta Palace here and top officials of the state government as well as senior citizens of the city participated in the rally.
Talking to UNI here, ARPAN officials expressed concern over declining trend of fertile land and contemplated for special technologies to increase agricultural productivity.
They have also stressed on implementation of Wasteland Reclamation, Water Harvesting, Crop Rotation, Organic Gardening, Biogas production, Pollution Management, Erosion Management, Overgrazing controls, Social Forestry programme in a large scale in the state.
Access to potable water is a fundamental human need, yet during the summer months drinking water becomes so scarce that women have to travel kilometers to find water for their households in the state.
