Hyderabad, June 5: Opining that there was no scope for the emergence of Third Front in the present situation in the country, the Communist Party of India today said the Telugu Desam Party's efforts to bring regional parties on a common platform would only benefit the 'communal' Bharatiya Janata Party.

CPI National Executive Member and State Secretary K Narayana told reporters here that the party was for the emergence of a ''real alternative'' to both the Congress and BJP, based on ''people-oriented'' economic policies and not a ''hotch-potch'' arrangement.

The CPI was vehemently opposed to the neo-liberal economic policies of the UPA Government as it had badly affected the poor, he said.

He said the party had not been invited by the TDP for tomorrow's meeting of the regional parties convened by it.

The TDP had convened a meeting of like-minded regional parties here to decide on the formation of a Third Front and finalise their stand in the coming elections for the posts of President and Vice-President.
