Naihati, Jun 5 (UNI) Renovation of Sealdah division of Eastern Railways can be actualised if the hawkers and illegal shop owners be removed from the station, sources informed today.

Sealdah divisional manager Swapan Mondal yesterday asked MLA Ranjit Kundu to find ways to vacate the station area of unauthorised stalls in order to bring in renovation.

Despite the High Court order of removal of such stalls, the railway authorities have failed to make a headway in the issue.

Local MP Tarit Baran Topdar, who was a member of the standing committee to the Lok Sabha attached to the ministry of railways, and Mr Kundu had a conference with Mr Mondal after studying the prevailing situation of Naihati Junction Railway station which was declared a Model station a few years back.

Mr Mondal said the station lacked a proper approach road as its main building came up by the side of a comparatively narrow 20 ft wide road leaving no space between the road and the building. A reconstruction of the main building could only solve the problem.

Besides, existing platforms were also to be extended to accommodate express trains entering Sealdah and Howrah via Bandel Junction. About Rs one crore was available to initiate the renovation work for Naihati Station, Mr Mondal said here.

Sealdah division of the Eastern Railway had already obtained sanction and fund from the authorities to develop a number of junction stations, like Kalyani, Bangaon, Baruipur, Barasat, Naihati besides Sealdah and Bidhan Nagar.
