Media protests tardy arrangement for coverage
Panaji, June 5: Mediapersons today strongly protested the scant arrangement and severe restrictions imposed on them even at the media centre in Balbawan here while covering the counting of votes for the Goa assembly elections.
Irate journalists, including cameramen, protested against the alleged recalcitrant attitude of the authorities and argued with the North Goa District Collector Nikhil Kumar outside the counting centre.
Only later, the cameramen were allowed entry into the counting centre. They were, however, barred from taking pictures of the counting hall, nor were they allowed to carry mobile phones.
Absence of any telephone inside the media hall, and malfunctioning of the speaker further enraged the journalists who shouted slogans against the concerned officials.
They had to depend on a telephone of the state information and publicity department to some extent. Later, the authorities arranged a payphone in the adjoining room for the mediapersons.
