Education budget estimates presented
Mumbai, June 5 (UNI) The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) today presented a Rs 1098.55-crore budget proposal for education for the year 2007-08.
Presenting the budget proposal to Education Committee chairman Mangesh Satamkar here today, Additional Municipal Commissioner (AMC) Kishor Gajbhiye said the budget proposal for the current financial year has a number of noteworthy features pertaining to both its structure and contents.
During the current academic year, the BMC has decided to start 84 new public schools for imparting education in English medium. It will start from Junior KG, Senior KG and first standard, while one higher class would be added each year upto the Xth standard.
The BMC has a proposal to appoint Educational Advisory Committee at ward levels for supervising municipal schools.
An ambitious project of three residential sports academies is proposed for the benefit of municipal students in the age group of 8 to 14 years. Under this project, training in various sports will be provided to the students by experts, with the aim of producing bright plyers in the next four to five years.
A provision Rs 85 lakh has been made in the budget to provide free text books to the students from the current accademic year upto the Xth standard. It will also supply free uniform to the students.
A provision of Rs 66.88 crore and Rs 7.64 crore respectively has been proposed for the primary and secondary schools.
