Delhi to set up SPV for e-governance projects, research : CM

New Delhi, June 5 (UNI) Acting on the recommendations of the National Knowledge Commission, the Delhi government has decided to set up a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for faster implementation of e-governance projects and to create a research and education network by inter connecting all Universities, Libraries, Hospitals and Research Centres.

This was decided in keeping with meeting presided over by Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, which was attended by Education Minister Arvinder Singh, Secretaries of departments of Education, IT, Higher and Technical Education and Advisor, National Knowledge Commission S Regunathan, who made a presentation on the recommendations.

It was also decided to set up committees for libraries and health related institutions and induct qualified graduates with good communication skills to teach English. The government has also decided to train all teachers in English.

Ms Dikshit stressed on the need of digitisation and networking of all the libraries for which the SPV would be able to provide required assistance.

A separate state translation mission would also be set up on the lines of National Translation Mission proposed by the NKC, an official statement said.

A committee on Higher Education would look into all aspects to encourage private investment and encourage e-governance. A separate group would be constituted on vocational education and vocational training. It has also been decided to promote e-commerce in the capital city, the statement said.
