Cong defends UP Governor's decision
New Delhi, June 5 (UNI) Reacting to the dropping of the proceedings by the CBI against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati in the Taj Corridor case, the Congress today said the Governor had exercised his Constitutional right to grant or refuse permission to prosecute a Chief Minister.
"Whatever decision has been taken by the Governor must have been done after considering the merits and demerits of the case,"Congress Spokesman Satyavrat Chaturvedi said.
"The matter falls within the jurisdiction of the Governor and he is empowered to take any decision,"he told UNI here.
It was for the Governor to know how he had arrived at this decision, Mr Chaturvedi said.
