BIS opens gold hallmarking lab in Punjab
Ludhiana, June 5 (UNI) The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) today opened its first gold hallmarking laboratory in the private sector in the region to test the purity of gold and jewellery.
The laboratory--LD Gold Labs Private Limited was inagurated by BIS Deputy Director General Bhupinder Singh here. This lab is the first of its kind, approved by BIS in the states of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.The BIS already has 51 such labs functioning in the country.
Calling for setting up more such labs in the region, Mr Bhupinder Singh said that BIS would provide a subsidy of 15 per cent to anyone interested in this venture. He pointed out that hallmarking of gold and gold jewellery had been introduced by BIS throughout the country.
