BBC to air programmes in Tamil on 'Radio One'

Chennai, Jun 5 (UNI) 'BBC World Service' today tied up with leading FM broadcaster 'Radio One' here to air Tamil programmes, ranging from entertainment to sports from tomorrow onwards.

Talking to mediapersons here, Neil Curry, Head of Business Development, Asia Pacific BBC said, ''We will be extending our programmes to 'Radio One' in Chennai, which will add value to listners across the city''.

''The content partnership has been received very well by the audience in the two metros, New Delhi and Mumbai, as BBC brings celebrity names and guests to 'Radio One's programming line-up,'' he said.

He said ''BBC will also give exclusive content for the 'Radio One' audience, including cricket and football updates and from a number of major international entertainment events.'' 'Radio One', Chennai station head L V Navaneeth said, ''We will carry original content in Tamil from BBC on our station. This would be a new concept for our audience.'' He said, ''Suchitra, Chennai's best known Radio voice will host the breakfast show from TOMORROW. She will entertain and engage listners on 'Radio One' from 0700 hrs to 1100 hrs from Monday to Saturday.'' ''Suchi will also add to the enormous creative and people talent.

They have helped build 'Radio One' as a leading brand in the short span of time,'' he said, adding 'Radio One' has made subtle changes to its programme mix. These changes will ensure that 'Radio One' demonstrates its core promise consistently and continously every 20 minutes.
