AIADMK candidate files nomination

Madurai, Jun 5 (UNI) Opposition AIADMK candidate Sellur K Raju filed his nomination papers for the June 26 Assembly by polls from Madurai West constituency here today.

Mr Raju, former AIADMK district secretary, hails from the dominant Thevar community, which had a considerable presence in the constituency.

He filed the papers before Returning Officer A Narayanamoorthy at the Collectorate here.

The Congress, a constituent of the DMK-led DPA, is yet to announce its candidate for the seat.

The by-election was necessitated due to the death of AIADMK legislator S V Shanmugham, who had rebelled against the party leadership.

The constituency had elected former Chief Minister and AIADMK Founder M G Ramachandran, besides Communist stalwarts like K T K Thangamani and P Ramamurthy.
