Guj: Voters without IDs barred from casting votes

Rajkot, June 4: Voters without identity cards will not be allowed to cast their votes in the coming Assembly elections in Gujarat, Deputy Election Commissoner J P Prakash said here today.

''Voter's identity card is compulsory for voting in the coming Assembly elections,'' said Mr Prakash in a release.

Yesterday, he held a review meeting with the election officers of the Saurashtra region here to assess the electoral process.

Stressing on the need for I-card, Mr Prakash directed the officers concerned to complete the I-card issuing process by August in every district of the region.

Chief Electoral Officer of Gujarat V K Babbar and election officers from Bhavnagar, Surendranagar and Rajkot were present in the meeting, the release added.
