Vehicle safety and security week

Mumbai, Jun 4 (UNI) In a move to counter the increasing number of vehicle thefts in the city, the Mumbai Police and Western India Automobile Association (WIAA) have organized a Vehicle Safety and Security Week from June 1-7.

Sponsored by security solutions major, Micro Technologies (India) Limited, the week was inaugurated by the Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil here last friday.

The vehicle safety and security week is being organised to emphasize and highlight the increasing incidents of vehicle theft in and around Mumbai, said a senior police official.

In addition, vehicle owners will be introduced to the latest technological devices and be educated on other preventive methods to overcome the menace of vehicle thefts.

In the year 2005, an estimated Rs. 70 Crore worth of vehicles were stolen in Mumbai alone with a detection rate of merely 18 per cent.

A.R Kale, Director, Micro Technologies India Ltd added that the group has thrived to create solutions over time to curb these thefts and are confident that the week long event will be a good platform to bring awareness among the general public.

WIAA is the largest and oldest motoring Association in South Asia, having over 70,000 members with a network of seven branches in five states of Western Zone. Among the many services, WIAA is partnering Micro Technologies in propagating use of Vehicle Security to their members.
