Two women die of sunstroke
Purulia, Jun 4 (UNI) At least two women died of sunstroke today at Patherdih village, bordering Jharkhand and Purulia, increasing the heat-related death toll to five so far.
Official sources said the women were admitted to the Patherdih Primary Health Centre yesterday.
Meanwhile, the maximum temperature recorded yesterday was 50.4 degrees Celsius, a new record, surpassing last year's record of 50.1 degrees Celsius on May 28 in the district so far.
''About 282 people have fallen sick so far and have been admitted to the nearby health centres of Raghunathpur,'' Sadar Deber Mahato, official of the chief medical office here said.
