Two militants killed and arms recovered in Tripura

Agartala, June 4: Two hardcore militants of National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) were killed last night in an anti-insurgency operation carried out by Tripura State Rifles(TSR) in a remote village in West Tripura, police said today.

''Acting on a tip-off, TSR jawans launched a massive manhaunt against the militants on Saturday night and after 24 hours of operation, the ultras suddenly opened fire on the jawans,'' police said.

Two NLFT cadres Shankar Jamatia and Selim Debbarmma died in retaliatory fire but no causalty was reported from the TSR side. A Chinese grenade, collection slip and some incriminating documents were recovered from the spot, police added.

Meanwhile, police and Assam Rifles recovered two Chinese revolvers and 22 live cartridges from Ashapara Reang refugee camp of Kanchanpur, eastern part of Tripura along Mizoram border last night.

Nobody was, however, arrested so far in this connection, police said, adding that Mizoram-based Bru National Liberation Front of Tripura was suspected to be the owner of the arms.
