Trehan joins Apollo; New appointments in Ecorts
New Delhi, Jun 4: Noted cardiologist Naresh Trehan, who had quit the Escorts Hospital following a standoff with its management, today formally joined the rival Apollo Group.
Besides Dr Trehan, another 40 doctors from Escorts and a number of support staffers, also joined the Indraprastha Apollo hospital, said a Apollo spokesperson.
However, an Escorts official contested this and put the number of doctors at 20, and said only two senior doctors--Dr Yatin Mehta and Dr Kasliwal, have left along with Dr Trehan. He said only 20 support staffers too left Escorts.
Meanwhile, Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre Ltd (EHIRCL) announced several appointments, in the wake of these developments.
At a conference, Mr Shivinder Mohan Singh, Managing Director of EHIRCL, said renowned cardiologist Dr T S Kler has been appointed as the Executive Director, Cardiac Sciences. He is a Padma awardee and an interventional cardiologist and an expert electrophysiologist The surgical programme will now be led by Dr K S Iyer, as Head of Paediatric Cardiac Surgery, and Dr Meharwal, Dr Yugal Mishra and Dr Vijay Kohli as Directors for Adult Cardiac Surgery. Dr Anil Karlekar will be the Head of Anaesthesia and Critical Care Medicine.
''All the new appointees have collectively built Escorts Heart Institute as the leading heart care institute of India. We are confident that under the stewardship of Dr Kler and the exceptional clinical team, Escorts will set even greater benchmarks in heart care.'' Mr Singh added.
